EE confirmed that it will test 5G mobile technology at Glastonbury 2019 to make it the UK’s first 5G-connected festival.
EE has been a partner of Glastonbury for 19 years and this will be operator’s 6th year as technology partner. It will install five temporary masts across the site, broadcasting 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G. Festival goers will be able to test the new 5G network technology via 5G-powered WiFi. The official Glastonbury 2019 app will be available to download from May, and EE will also provide a recharge tent to help people stay connected.
EE expects the 200,000 visitors to use more than 70 TB of mobile data over the weekend, equal to 784 million Instagram posts. This will be a 40 percent increase from 54 TB of data used in 2017.
