Indonesian operator Telkomsel has commercially launched 4G LTE services over the 1,800 MHZ band in the city of Makassar, reports Telecompaper.com on July 8, 2015. Telkomsel says data services consumption during the first half of 2015 has increased by 166 percent compared to the same period of 2014. Telkomsel deployed 150 base stations in Makassar at strategic locations such as the airport, universities, malls, and other crowded areas.
Telkomsel initially launched 4G LTE services using the 900 MHz band in December 2014. The network is available in Jakarta and Bali, as well as Bandung, Surabaya and Medan. Telkomsel has over 1,000 base stations deployed in these areas. The operator reports it has around 700,000 subscribers to its 4G LTE service on 900 MHz.
